A dining experience in the Bay

Enjoy Bay of Plenty's fresh local produce

New Zealand's culinary delights are regarded as among the best in the world. A diverse range of ingredients are on our menus, using the 'fresh is best' policy. Try exquisite fresh seafood, prime New Zealand beef and lamb, fresh fruit from local orchards and seasonal vegetables.

The Bay of Plenty was so-named for its plentiful 'fruit bowl' properties. This area serves up some of the most inspired culinary delights presented with imagination and flair.

Innovative and eclectic, the 'Pacific Rim' influence unique to New Zealand cuisine takes its inspiration from countries and regions like Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Polynesia, Japan and Vietnam. This diverse blend of influences has created a mouth-watering range of menus.

The distinctly New Zealand-style cuisine often features New Zealand lamb, pork and venison; salmon, Deep Sea crayfish, Bluff oysters, paua (abalone), mussels and scallops; kumara (sweet potato); kiwifruit and tamarillo. For desert, delicacies such as pavlova - our national dessert made from meringue and lashings of fresh whipped cream topped with fresh fruit or berries - are irresistable.

Local Vineyards

The Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions, located in the central North Island of New Zealand, are renowned as wine producing areas.  With steadily expanding vineyards occupying small blocks of  land amongst lush rolling farmland, the region is becoming well known for its unique flavours.

Tauranga features two locally-based vineyards; Mills Reef and Morton Estate, both of which have won international awards for the excellence of their products. Both of these vineyards feature restaurants and offer cellar door sales and wine tastings.

Wine production in this region is focused mainly on Chardonnay with Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc also being produced.
